I guess you can try an exercise. Read aloud the quicker you can, and then read it in your mind. Which one is faster? If your mind reads it quicker, maybe this advice isn’t for you, I for one can’t read without “reading with my mind”, but that doens’t keep me from understanding and reading fast. It’s just that if I don’t do it, I simply can’t concentrate and will end up “reading without reading”

Hi there, I think the point that Chris was trying to make is that your level of English should be at a standard which allows you to recognise and understand the words in front of you as soon as you read them in the exam paper, without taking a few seconds to process them in your head. This will improve your ability to complete the Reading exam in the time allotted.

If you say words silently or say them very quietly when reading, stop this. It increases the time it takes for you to process a word.

I am having difficulty in understanding this statement, for instance, I read text in my mind without saying it, why should I stop doing this? Or are you specifically referring to the Keywords in a given text once we locate it?
