There are three types of letter in Writing Task 1; formal, informal and semi-formal. However, to keep things clear, we strongly suggest focusing only on formal and informal letters. This will to keep things clear for both you and the examiner. The IELTS criteria states that the tone must be ‘appropriate,’ so there is no real necessity for the semi-formal tone.

If you have any questions, please email us at chris@ieltsadvantage.com.
